Coconut Water: The New Craze

You've probably seen the posts about the new coconut water craze spreading around the blogosphere faster than a cold in a preschool class. And I'm sure, if you're like me, you thought to yourself, "hum, that sounds pretty good, maybe I'll grab one at the store to drink before or after my next workout. Because, really, what could possibly be better for a body in training than a quick, easy, and tasty source of natural electrolytes???"

Seems logical to me!

So, that's exactly what I did last week when I went to the store I bought two different flavors and brands of coconut water, pineapple and pink guava, to try out.  I must say I had mixed reactions.

The pineapple was the first one I tried and it was disgusting... I took one sip and that was one too many.  It was SO disgusting! It didn't taste like pineapple or coconut... it just tasted like crap (well not literally lol). I don't remember what brand it was but it was in a white box with a similar shape to the O.N.E pictured above.

After that I was hesitant to even try another coconut water. But after my workout the other night I opened the O.N.E pink guava coconut water and was prepared for the worst, but was pleasantly surprised! It was actually quite good! It tasted similar to the Tropical Blend V8 Splash, which I love.

I can't remember how much they cost me, but I bought them at Buy for Less, so they weren't that much! The O.N.E website says you can get a pack of twelve online for $15.48, so that's $1.29 each, plus shipping, but they also have a list of retailers so you can find one near you!

So all in all they are about the same price as Gatorade and about the same amount of calories, as you can see from the second image, but the difference, the advantage, of coconut water is that it is all natural!

Aspira Pura - Pure Joy Bottled

I had the great joy of randomly bumping into this company on Instagram, where they offered to send me a few free bottles of their water to see how I liked it.  I must say I absolutely love it, it's like pure joy bottled!  Aspira Pura is an amazingly crisp water that I just couldn't get enough of. Which is most likely due to the reverse osmosis process that adds the minerals and electrolytes, which regular purified water doesn't have, including Calcium Chloride, Potassium Bicarbonate, and Magnesium Chloride.  Another great feature of Aspira Pura is the bottles, which are BPA free. I've found through trial and error that this means that even when they are shipped in the heat your water won't get that plastic taste... if you drink cheap Wal-mart water you know what I'm talking about.  Depending where you look, this water will run you about the same price / mL as Icelandic Glacial or LIFEWTR, but that's because you're getting the same great minerals, electr...

LIFE WTR... another reverse osmosis purified water with added electrolytes...

Life wtr is another reverse osmosis purified water with added electrolytes that has nearly the same price tag as natural mineral water...  Why is this? The art installations on the bottles are vibrant, making it stand out on shelves. But what makes it cost so much? It does taste amazing, nearly as crisp and delicious as my favorite water so far, Icelandic Glacial. So, maybe there's something to this reverse osmosis vs. whatever they do to purify the cheap Wal-mart water?!
